It is great that more and more people are getting interested in alternative energy. We as a country need to rid ourselves of our dependency on foreign oil for good, because this is absurd. How can we call ourselves the greatest country in the world if other countries control our fuel supply? Not good.
Solar and wind power are two alternative energy options that have proved themselves to be viable for the general populous. Solar power in particular is a great option to be put in cities, because the low-profile solar panels can be placed on top of buildings. Wind power is a great option for people who have some land where they can erect some wind turbines.
A great thing about rural properties having alternative energy is that the residents will have power even if something happens to the grid. They can set up the system in a way that the sun and wind can provide them with plenty of power to get by until the power company can fix the problem.
Some of these property owners actually create more power than they need, and can sell their excess power back to the grid. Not only are they not using any grid power, they are actually making more that other people can use, and getting paid for it! How cool is that?
If you are thinking about using alternative energy on your property, remember that it doesn’t have to be all or nothing! Some people have just a couple solar panels to help them cut down on their monthly bills. Others have a house that is entirely on the grid, but their garage or workshop is run off wind power alone.
There are many different ways you can use alternative energy. Even if you don’t move completely off-grid, you are still helping by using that much less energy. Everyone wins! You save or make money, and we don’t have to produce as much energy in the traditional method!
